Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Malawi / Transfer to Majete Wildlife Reserve

Welcome to Malawi! Upon arrival at Chileka International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your tour guide. After collecting your luggage, you will be transferred to your comfortable lodge in the Majete Wildlife Reserve. Settle in for a relaxing evening in the warm heart of Africa.
Overnight: Mkulumadzi Lodge, Majete Wildlife Reserve

Day 2-3: Majete Wildlife Reserve

This morning you will set off for an early morning game drive in the reserve. Majete Wildlife Reserve is an incredible testament to the wildlife restoration projects on the African continent. In the 1970s and 1980s, wildlife populations here were severely depleted, but after extensive work by African Parks and the Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife, Majete now has a healthy, thriving wildlife population. Over the next two days we will experience the magic of close encounters with wildlife and learn more about Majete’s historic resurrection and restoration before returning to the lodge for dinner and sitting back as the African sun sets on the horizon.
Overnight: Mkulumadzi Lodge, Majete Wildlife Reserve

Day 4: Transfer to Thyolo

Today we leave the Majete Wildlife Reserve and make our way to the Satemwa Tea Estates in Thyolo. This area is known for its historic tea and coffee plantations and is arguably the most scenic region in Malawi. With its lush rolling hills and impeccably maintained tea and coffee plantations, Thyolo is a real delight to explore by bike, car or on foot. We soon arrive at the beautiful Huntingdon House. Enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening surrounded by this magnificent landscape.
Overnight: Huntingdon House

Day 5: Thyolo

Today we explore the farms and lands surrounding Huntingdon House, learn about the history of this important region and admire the outstanding beauty of the landscape. We also can enjoy tea tastings and home-cooked meals right at Huntington House.
Overnight: Huntingdon House

Day 6: Transfer to Zomba

After breakfast this morning we drive to Malawi’s historic capital, Zomba. Located in southern Malawi, Zomba is a must-see town to explore and visit due to its colonial architecture and location on the southern slopes of the Zomba Plateau. Here you can roam the surrounding wilderness and forests in search of sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls. For the more adventurous, Zomba offers exceptional opportunities for hiking, fishing, horse riding, bird watching, mountain biking and even rock climbing!
Overnight: Zomba Forest Lodge

Day 7: Explore the Zomba Plateau

Today we set off on a guided hike on the Zomba Plateau. This stunning plateau is characterized by crisscrossing streams, cascading waterfalls, and tranquil lakes. Gradually we reach the top of the plateau, passing by King William’s Falls, Queen’s View, Zomba Dam and Chingwe Hall. We soon reach the summit where we experience a view that was once described as the “best in the British Empire.” After an eventful day we return to our lodge.
Overnight: Zomba Forest Lodge

Day 8: Transfer to Liwonde National Park

This morning, we continue our exploration of Malawi. After breakfast transfer to Liwonde National Park where we will spend the next 3 nights. Liwonde National Park is located on the southern tip of Lake Malombe in southern Malawi. Although it is one of Malawi’s smaller parks, Liwonde is arguably the most popular of all the country’s game parks. Due to the abundance of wildlife sightings, including hippos, kudu, elephants, crocodiles, and even black rhinos, the park has become one of the most important destinations for animal and bird watching in Malawi.
Overnight: Kuthengo Camp, Liwonde National Park

Day 9-10: Liwonde National Park

Spend the next two days on safari in Liwonde National Park. A wide range of activities await you here, including traditional game drives, canoe and boat safaris and overnight stays in well-located safari camps. Return to camp in the evening to tell the stories of the day around the campfire and experience the unique atmosphere of a traditional bush camp.
Overnight: Kuthengo Camp, Liwonde National Park

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Malawi, Cape Maclear

Today we drive to Lake Malawi, the crown jewel of Malawi. We soon reach Cape Maclear on the beautiful southern shore of the lake. Cape Maclear is a small resort town with several beach bars, local restaurants, and spectacular golden sandy beaches. Make yourself comfortable for the next 3 nights of sand, sun, and adventure!
Overnight: Pumulani Lodge on Lake Malawi

Day 12-13: Lake Malawi, Cape Maclear

The next three days are at your leisure. Kayak to nearby Thumbi Island and spot the majestic fish eagle, snorkel among the lively schools of fish or explore the local craft market. Sail across the lake and experience a picturesque African sunset, or dive into the crystal-clear depths of one of the world’s best freshwater diving spots. Other activities include bird watching, windsurfing, island tours, guided village walks and motorized boat trips (motorized activities incur additional costs).
