Luxury Honeymoon Zambia & Malawi (13 days)
Tour overview
This tour has all the ingredients for the perfect honeymoon: luxury and romance with a touch of adventure. From the famous Victoria Falls to the vast plains of South Luangwa National Park and the warm waters of Lake Malawi, there could not be a more perfect start to married life. You will first fly to Victoria Falls, one of Africa’s most popular regions and the perfect place to begin this trip. From your base, which is about an hour upstream from the falls, you can explore the entire area at your leisure without the hustle and bustle that can set in if you stay closer to the falls. Of course, you will spend some time walking in the gorge and marvelling at this amazing natural wonder, but there are plenty of other activities here that provide adventure and plenty of variety. Next up is South Luangwa National Park, one of the best areas for big game viewing in Africa, especially big cat and elephant sightings. Explore the plains with your guide and enjoy amazing wildlife sightings and the luxury of one of the best lodges in all of Africa. From South Luangwa you will fly east to Malawi where you will spend a few days on a wonderful beach holiday. Although Malawi is a landlocked country, the lake of the same name is one of the best beach locations on the continent and perfect to round off your honeymoon. Your lodge is located on a tiny island and is a little paradise on earth and a wonderful addition to any African trip. At the end of the tour you will fly back to Lilongwe where you will catch your flight home.
Itinerary
Day 1: Destination Victoria Falls
You will land in Johannesburg this morning and take a late morning flight to Livingstone, Zambia’s gateway to Victoria Falls. From the airport you will be transferred to Royal Chundu River Lodge, the furthest lodge from Victoria Falls on the Zambian side with 15 km of private river frontage to explore. This means you avoid the crowds that can be found at other lodges and hotels, while still having easy access to the falls and all the activities associated with them.
Overnight: Royal Chundu River Lodge, Livingstone
Day 2: Exploring Victoria Falls
Enjoy a day exploring the Victoria Falls region in the company of one of Royal Chundu’s incredible guides. It is about an hour from the lodge to the falls, so you will usually want to set aside a morning to visit, including a walk along the falls’ viewpoints. If the water level is low enough, a walk on the edge of the falls is also possible. Also visit the excellent David Livingstone Museum, located in the heart of town.
Overnight: Royal Chundu River Lodge, Livingstone
Day 3: Relaxing by the river
Of course, a visit to this area is about much more than just Victoria Falls. You can enjoy a variety of activities on the river, including kayaking, fishing, picnicking on sandbanks, and sunset cruises. The lodge is also known for its beautiful swimming pool overlooking the Zambezi, its excellent spa facilities, and its superb cuisine – it is a Relais and Chateaux property, so you can be sure you are getting only the best.
Overnight: Royal Chundu River Lodge, Livingstone
Day 4: Enjoy Royal Chundu or visit Chobe National Park
Enjoy another day of relaxation at the beautiful Royal Chundu. There is hardly a better place in Africa to sit back, relax and be pampered by the wonderful surroundings of your stay. Take a dip in the infinity pool, gaze out over the Zambezi River, or enjoy one of the exclusive massage treatments. Of course, there are also various activities to choose from and if you fancy a safari, the world-famous Chobe National Park is easily accessible across the border in Botswana.
Overnight: Royal Chundu River Lodge, Livingstone
Day 5: The South Luangwa awaits you
Enjoy a final breakfast overlooking the river before being transferred back to the airport to fly to Mfume on the edge of the South Luangwa National Park. A transfer takes you into the park and to the stunning Chinzombo Lodge, one of the best safari lodges in all of Africa and the perfect base for game viewing in this pristine national park. Spend the afternoon relaxing in your private pool overlooking the Luangwa River before setting off on your first game drive.

Day 6: Big Game Viewing in South Luangwa National Park
Chinzombo is in the most game-rich part of the park with large numbers of lions, leopards, wild dogs, elephants, and buffalo, as well as many other species. As such, it is the ideal terrain to explore by vehicle and you will go on game drives every morning and evening with your guide. You will get to see the park’s wildlife up close and their explanations of what you are seeing and why Chinzombo’ s guides are some of the best in the business.
Overnight: Chinzombo Lodge, South Luangwa National Park
Day 7: Relax and explore
Of course, the bush is not just about wildlife watching, especially when you are staying in a place as beautiful as Chinzombo. The idyllic riverside location makes it the perfect place for lazy afternoons on your large terrace, in your swimming pool or in the shaded bar area of the main building. In the evening, enjoy drinks by the fire before dining on the terrace under the African starry sky, enjoying what is probably the best safari cuisine you have ever tasted.
Overnight: Chinzombo Lodge, South Luangwa National Park
Day 8: Shimmering Lake Malawi
After a final morning game drive and a farewell breakfast, you will be transferred to Mfuwe airport for your flight to Lilongwe and then on to Likoma Island on the east side of Lake Malawi. Here you will spend 5 nights in the beautiful Kaya Mawa, a Robinson Crusoe-like property on the edge of this tiny island, with direct access to the warm waters of the lake. Enjoy dinner in this dreamily beautiful place.
Overnight: Kaya Mawa Lodge, Lake Malawi
Day 9-12: Relax in paradise
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the fantastic location that Kaya Mawa offers. Swim in the warm waters of the lake, watch cichlids while snorkelling and take a ride on a traditional dhow. The food here is a delight. The meals served on the soft sandy beach are particularly popular, especially in the evening when the beach is lit with candles and lanterns.
